Chifley gets its name from Ben Chifley, who was Australian Prime Minister at the end of WWII. The suburb is close to beaches on both its eastern and western sides, including Malabar Beach, Little Bay Beach and Yarra Bay. It’s also close to Sydney Airport and about a 30-minute drive to the Sydney CBD, as well as shopping hubs like Westfield Eastgardens and Maroubra Junction, so living here offers plenty of convenience. Although named for the neighbouring suburb, Matraville Sports High School lies within the Chifley suburb boundaries, as does Chifley Public School and several pre-schools and day care centres, reflecting Chifley’s family-oriented atmosphere.
