Plane spotters, rejoice! There are a few great spotting locations in Mascot, including Shep’s Mound, which is near the Air Traffic Control Tower and offers views of both runways, and Ross Smith Avenue, where aircraft fly so close overhead it feels like you can reach out and touch them—but only on particularly windy days, when the East-West Runway is in use.

Outside of the airport, Mascot is a bustling community that's constantly evolving. Despite its close proximity to the city, Mascot still retains a charming village-like feel, making it an ideal location for both young professionals and families who don’t mind a little aircraft noise. Many modern high-rise apartment blocks are popping up, but there are still plenty of traditional free-standing homes to be found, too.

There’s a modern dining and lifestyle precinct surrounding the Mascot Train Station, offering plenty of dining options. But perhaps the most popular dining attraction in Mascot is the humble Hong Ha Bakery. Located on Botany Road, Hong Ha is famous for their crunchy banh mi—the recipe for which has gone unchanged for 30 years! The line is always out the door, but don’t let that deter you. If you’re in Mascot, don’t miss this cult culinary treat!
