Time zones matter

Mother’s Day falls on Sunday May 8th 2022 in Australia, the same date as in the US. In the UK, however, it falls on Sunday March 27th 2022. Don’t get the dates confused and send mum flowers on March 27th for Mother's Day in Australia (unless you want to, of course)!

Here’s a tip: in Australia, Mother’s Day always falls on the second Sunday of May, which means the date will change but never the day.

You might be feeling like there’s still a long way to go between now and May 8th, but those weeks and months will fly by, and Mother’s Day will be here before you know it! It never hurts to start planning early, and the great news is you can get your Mother’s Day flower order in right now, so that your mum’s Mother's Day surprise is firmly locked in. This is especially true if you’re ordering from abroad.

As time zones differ from city to city and country to country, the last thing you want is to get caught in a last-minute frantic rush to order flowers in time from the first place you find online.

Depending on the time of year, Sydney will be between 9 to 11 hours ahead of London, 17 to 19 hours ahead of Los Angeles and 14 to 16 hours ahead of New York City. This means it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to send same-day flowers from the US or UK to Australia, as Australia will already be one day ahead.

That’s why it’s important to get your flower delivery sorted ahead of time, and that's where we come in!

Consider where in Australia you're sending flowers to

If you’re planning on sending flowers to a major Australian city like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide, the good news is you’ll have a lot of flower delivery companies to choose from. With a little planning, sending flowers from overseas to these major cities is fairly easy.

Sending flowers to regional areas of Australia may require even more planning ahead of time, as not everyone will be able to deliver to these areas.

Western Australia and Tasmania pose additional challenges, as both states have strict border control measures to prevent the introduction of pests and diseases to their agricultural industries. If you're sending flowers to these areas, the florist or online florist you choose may need to be based in those locations. Send Mother's Day Flowers overseas The Freyja

Use an online Australian florist (like Floraly) to get your flowers delivered

One option is to look for an online flower delivery company that will source, prepare, and send out your flowers themselves, so that they’re as fresh and beautiful as possible when they arrive on mum’s doorstep.

If you’re in search of an online florist to send your mum flowers this Mother’s Day, then you’ve come to the right place. Floraly delivers to most places around Australia, including NSW, VIC, QLD, ACT and SA.

Floraly is an environmentally and socially-conscious online flower delivery company based in Australia. Our partnership with Oz Harvest means that with each bouquet you send, you’re also buying a meal for someone who needs it. How’s that for a win-win situation this Mother’s Day? We are also working towards becoming Carbon Neutral, and we give you the option to offset your carbon at checkout through our partner Future Neutral

Use Interflora to get flowers delivered from local Australian florists

Another option, if you want to send flowers anywhere in Australia, is to use an amalgamation service like Interflora. With its network of over 700 independent Australian florists, Interflora sends orders out to a florist that is local to the area you’re sending the flowers to.

While this will allow you to more easily send flowers to places like Perth and regional areas of Australia, this can also result in you having less control over the quality of the flowers you are sending, as you don't know exactly which florist the flowers will come from.
